 1.      Chlorine reacts with organic waste and forms a large number of highly toxic chloro-organic compounds, also referred to as "combined chlorine". These are well known carcinogens, and are also very poisonous to marine life. In swimming pools they accumulate in very high concentrations. Red eyes and rashes are the most instant and obvious effects, and should be considered signals of a much more serious risk to human health. Pools usually use makeup water to dilute these dangerous compounds. As a result, an equal amount of pool water must be released into the environment.

  • Doesn't chlorine work just as well?
Ozone operates according the principle of oxidation. Ozone is faster than chlorine at killing bacteria because chlorine needs to diffuse through the cell wall and disrupt the bacteria's metabolism. Ozone, however, rips open the cell wall from the outside, causing the cell's contents to fall apart. This process is called cell lysing. With ozone, after destruction of the cell, all that is left is carbon dioxide, cell debris and water. As the ozone oxidizes material, it gets used up. Once it has done its job of oxidation, ozone reverts back to oxygen (O2). This additional oxygen in the water makes it taste good, smell good and gives it a sparkle. There are no toxic or hazardous byproducts.

  • What's wrong with using Chlorine?
Chlorine reacts with organic waste and forms a large number of highly toxic chloro-organic compounds, also referred to as "combined chlorine". These are well known carcinogens, and are also very poisonous to marine life. In swimming pools they accumulate in very high concentrations. Red eyes and rashes are the most instant and obvious effects. Some chlorine by-products have been linked to higher incidences of asthma, lung damage, stillbirths, miscarriages and bladder cancer, according to credible research conducted in the U.S., Canada, Norway, Australia and Belgium. One researcher noted that 10-year-old children spending an average of 1.8 hours per week in a swimming pool environment suffered lung damage she would expect to see in an adult smoker.

2.      On average, the human body will absorb about half a litre of pool water every hour!  The best pools have water quality compliant with the standards for drinking water supply.

3.      There are more than 30,000 Public swimming pools in Europe treated with ozone.

4.      Bromine, ozone and hydrogen peroxide have been used successfully in the past with or without chlorine residual. Ozone is the strongest and most convenient disinfectant of all and its stability in water is most convenient.

5.      There are many advantages of treating pool water with ozone:

  • Filtration support. Ozone assists flocculation of organic waste materials, thus enhancing the effectiveness of sand filters.

  • Water purification. Ozone directly decomposes organic waste by oxidation.

  • Water sanitation. Properly dissolved ozone residual of 0.05 or higher assures 100% kill of all bacteria, viruses and fungus.

  • Water oxygenation. Unused ozone slowly decomposes to normal oxygen and remains dissolved in the water to the point of saturation. This makes the pool water clean, sparkling and appealing.

  • Leaves no toxic residues in the treated water. (See paragraph 2.)

  • Ozone is produced on site and does not require storage nor transportation.

  • Dissolved ozone at levels below 0.15 mg./l does not cause adverse health effects even during long term exposure.

  • Eliminate use of chlorine which is constantly released in its highly toxic gas form right above the pool water.

  • OZONE ends water discharge liabilities, i.e. no toxins .

  • OZONE prevents calcium carbonate scaling, removes existing scale, cleans and prevents greasy sediments on pool sides. OZONE treated waters have a much lower cleaning cost.

 6.   Ozone has become known as a major health benefit to swimming pool users, and is being used by countless hospitals and rehabilitation centres. Today's technology does not require chlorine, except as a backup in case of maintenance or power blackout.

Bromine is much more suitable than chlorine where there is a need to complement an ozone system, since bromine co-operates with ozone. While bromine is slightly more expensive to buy, much less bromine is needed since ozone will recycle bromine up to 14 X in the pool water.

 7.      Chlorine-free pools have been in operation for over 50 years in Europe.

 8.      During ozone start up in pools where chlorine was previously used, ozone may cause a few hours of foaming, flocculation, and milky water colour. These are proper oxidation processes; a one-time event with no harmful effects. The circulation system in the pool will remove the oxidation by-products and water will turn a sparkling clean sky blue with a pleasantly clean smell.

9.   Ozone generators provide all the necessary ozonation power to purify, oxygenate and sanitise swimming pools, Jacuzzi, ponds, water-works, and dams. Our modular system provides spares capacity in case of failure of any part of the ozonation system.

For commercial pools and spas our engineers are ready to review and utilise your pool's existing equipment (such as tanks, pumps, filters, buildings), to be fitted for ozonation.

The systems are engineered for fully automatic  and worry free operation.

The systems are easy to operate and maintain.

The standard warranty of one year

What equipment do I need to use ozone in my pool?

Ozone (O) is a highly unstable gas and reverts back to its stable state of oxygen (O) rapidly (15-30 minutes in water), therefore you need an ozone generator to produce the ozone gas on-site. All our Pool ozonator kits come with everything you need to install your unit quickly and effortlessly.
Calculate Litres of your Pool:
Metres (L) x Metres (W) x Metres (D) = cubic metres x 1000 = Total Litres
Cubic Meters to Litres: Cubic Metres x 1000 = Total Litres
Ozonator Size Required
Swimming pool based on 24-hour run-time Pool Size in Litres Ozone Generator Required
  less than < 15 000 approx 1 gram/hr
  less than < 30 000 approx 2 gram/hr
  < 50 000 approx 4 gram/hr
  < 100 000 approx 8 gram/hr
Heated swimming pools and rock pools require 20 - 35% more ozone.
Spa Bath / Jacuzzi based on 24-hour run-time Spa Size in Litres Ozone Generator Required
  < 1 500 300mg/hr
  <5000 500mg/hr
Ideal pump run time is 24 hours. If user chooses to run pump on 12-hour cycle time then water circulating rate should be once each 3 to 4 hour period. The pump should re-circulate the total volume of pool water through the injector at least once each 4 hr period for maximum litres. If the pool volume is say 60 000 litres then the pump should be capable of re-circulating the water at a rate of at least 15 000 litres per hour. This way, the total volume of water through the pool will be pass through the injector at least once each 4 hour period. Less pump run time for the minimum litres. Use Sodium Bromide if additional chemicals are required. Dosage is 20g per 1000 Litres of water every 6 months
Fitting an ozone Dosing System for swimming Pools is Simple:
Ozone generator wiring is spliced or plugged into the pump motor line so that when the pump runs, the generator runs.
The most popular domestic unit is the model 4000mg/hr producing 4 gram per hour and will suit up to +/-50 000 litre pool (Gunite, Marbellite or fibreglass). There is a range of larger output systems available, including commercial and industrial systems.
